Birch is a light hardwood which often has a wave like grain. Birch sands extremely well, easily accepts all types of stains and finishes and has excellent nail holding ability. The sapwood is a very light golden color while its heartwood ranges from tan to a red amber. The higher the grade, the lesser the percentage of heartwood.
