Beech is a hard, dense, durable wood. It's very strong, and will withstand decades of use. Beech sands extremely well, takes a stain or finish readily and has excellent nail holding ability. The sapwood is nearly white and the heartwood ranges from cream to golden tan to light walnut; the higher the grade, the lesser the percentage of dark wood.
