Red Oak is a very hard, strong and dense wood with a straight, open grain. A stable wood, Red Oak sands well, accepts stain readily and takes a finish well. It's also easy to nail, with excellent holding ability and resistance to splitting. Red Oak sapwood is light, but the heartwood is the dark reddish brown tone.
