Northern hard Maple is a heavy, strong hard wood. 12% harder than Oak, it is world renown for its durability. Because of its close grain, Maple sands and takes a finish well. Maple sapwood is very light, but the heartwood is dark; the higher the grade, the lesser the percentage of heart wood allowed.
