White Ash is a strong and durable hardwood. It has very good dimensional stability. It also has good nail holding properties and resistance to splitting during nailing. Ash sands easily and accepts most stains and finishes well. The sapwood is a light honey color while the heartwood is a medium to dark reddish brown; lesser grades have a higher percentage of the heartwood.
